PETER SELLERS Most Doctorish role: Doctor Pratt in "The Wrong Box" A brilliant character actor. I think he would play the Doctor as a cross between Hercules Grythpype-Thynne (his character from the Goon Show) and Sir Guy Grand (from The Magic Christian). JEREMY BRETT Most Doctorish role: Sherlock Holmes There is very little difference between Sherlock Holmes and The Doctor (I mean, they've both worn tartan coats at one point or another). I think it would have been terrific to see Jeremy Brett play the character similar to the way he played Holmes. PETER COOK Most Doctorish role: Lord Lambourn in "Yellowbeard" Was actually one of Verity Lambert's choices for the first Doctor. A talented satirist and member of the "Fringe", I think he would have made an excellent choice if the show hadn't chose William Hartnell. MICHAEL BENTINE (second from left) Most Doctorish role: Professor Pureheart from "The Goon Show" He was actually considered to play the Doctor after Jon Pertwee left the show until the producers found out that he wanted a hand in the script writing. His interests in the paranormal and science would have made him a rather good candidate to play the intrepid timelord. PETER CUSHING Most Doctorish role: Ah.....Well, you know. Doctor Who from the Daleks movies in the mid sixties, I think if he ditched the "Mad German Scientist" accent and played the Doctor like he played Govenor Tarkin from "Star Wars" and Sherlock Holmes from Hammer's "The Hound of the Baskervilles", he would have made a really excellent Doctor. |
